Eating Disorders Treatment
Do you think a lot about food? How much you weigh? How much you hate your body? Do you find yourself eating too much? Or maybe eating too little? Do you have times when you binge on foods and then feel that you have to purge to get it out of your body? If you've tried to improve things on your own and haven't been able to, then treatment makes sense. If an Eating Disorder is affecting your health, your home life, your work, or your relationships, it may be time to get help.
Why do eating disorders develop?
I believe that the eating or body image disorder is a symptom of something deeper inside that needs attention. While I treat the immediate symptoms of the disorder with cognitive behavioral techniques, I also help my clients explore the deeper reasons behind the need for the disorder.
The eating disorder can be so overpowering that it seems to be the main problem. You may be thinking "If only I didn't have this eating/body image disorder, life would be fine." Often the focus of treatment is on changing the eating habits and not paying attention to the root cause. When one gets to the root cause and finds the courage to fix that, then the eating disorder is no longer needed. My treatment approach is aimed at helping my clients find the source of their issue or pain and then supporting them while we work through it.
Can I recover from an eating disorder?
Yes. Eating Disorders can be treated. Eating Disorders need to be treated on many levels: physically, psychologically and nutritionally. These disorders are complex and the recovery needs to be multidimensional and tailored to the specific needs of each individual. When you have a commitment to recovery and a comprehensive treatment plan is implemented, recovery does happen.
What type of therapy do you provide?
My approach to treatment is multidimensional and tailored to the specific needs of the individual. In general, I am very interactive, and use Cognitive Behavioral and Interpersonal approaches to therapy. Family therapy and group therapy are also available when appropriate. I also work closely with your medical doctor so they may monitor any medical conditions that may be present. Nutritional counseling can also be arranged if necessary.
How do I begin the process of recovery?
Contact me for an assessment. We will look at the history of your eating disorder as well as what is going on in your life today. Together we will set treatment goals and design a program of recovery that best meets your needs.
With my skills, training, experience and passion for helping people heal eating and body image issues, combined with your willingness, courage, and commitment, we will work together so that you can finally move forward in your life.
Yes, there can be recovery from eating disorders. Can I help you?
